The flex pipe on the MR2 finally succumbed to Cancer. It was a long fight, and she fought hard, but in the end, it spread too far.

But now I find myself trying to locate a 28 year old exhaust part that no one sees to stock or be able to get. It looks like I am going to have to fab something, unless anyone knows a secret source?

I had the same issue with a fuel filler pipe on the Beretta I fixed up for my brother- couldn't find it ANYWHERE new and thus had to scour the salvage yards for one that was in good enough shape to use...

This may sound stupid, but have you tried a local muffler shop?

Those guys are awfully good at solving virtually any exhaust problem, and their prices are usually pretty fair.

Yeah, of all the things that needed to be fabbed, exhaust parts seem like the least worry-worthy. Maybe there's a super tricky part that I'm not accounting for???

I have had it done at a muffler shop. Those parts are universal as long as you have a welder

Pinch,

I'll check around the garage today and see if I have one.

I wouldn't have even thought of any solution other than fabbing a replacement

You may not want to spend the extra money, but why not a header and custom exhaust. Not that hard since there isn't much to it. I think there are a few headers still around and you loose a bit of weight in the process.

My main goal was to get a fresh inspection and sell it to move on to other projects, so I wanted to go as cheap and fast as possible. Looks like I will pull the existing and have a muffler shop fab something up for me. As much as I like the MR2, if most major parts are now discontinued, I need to move to something newer.

Although they are listed on the site, if you add them to your cart they come up as "no longer available". Same as Rock Auto and everywhere else I can find.

In my experience, it was cheaper for me to get a universal flex pipe welded in, than to replace with an OEM part... every time. (but I have never owned an MR2.. they might be different.)

What price are thinking? It might be easier to sell it as is. If I were in the market, I would consider one exhaust leak or not.

Sorry to see you get rid of her. GLWS.

Another vote for a muffler shop. I bought my AW11 with replacement system cobbled together by one of those shops using a Bosal muffler. It's held up great the 7 years I've had the car. I have no idea of it's actual age.
