There are clips that attach hub caps on old Bug wheels. I've seen them used to snap moon caps on new Fiat wheels perhaps you could screw them onto you wheels to hold the GMC caps on.

i have seen smooth caps for those wheels that use the stock plastic retention nuts in the past... don't ask me where i saw them, tho, because that was like 5 years ago..
Aluminum can be drilled and tapped quite easily.
