I live in the Chicago 'burbs with cold weather and a hint of snow in the air.

I'm visiting my son in Irvine, California standing outside a Ramen restaurant with a polo shirt on.

I don't miss the cold weather.

You people are crazy. I think the cold has damaged your brains at some time in your life. There is never a reason for cold weather much less hard water.

I'm glad winter is finally here myself.

Our version isn't quite as brutal as some of you gents. It was sunny and 58 today. A beautiful day in my book.

We've had a bit of rain for the last few days with snow in the mountains. I'm happy with the rain, though. We need it.

OTOH we have an indoor/outdoor cat who's very vocally complaining about the weather .

Yesterday was 18C and sunny, today is -2C with blowing snow and up to 25cm (10") in the forecast. As NGTD notes, winter has finally arrived to the Great White North...(but I didn't miss it).

Cleared out the driveway and a path to the sheds yesterday. Halfway through the clutch cable to the drive wheels broke at the end fitting thingy. I finished by clamping on a pair of visegrips and pulling on the cable. Something else to fix this week, I guess.

we got an extremely light dusting last night (stuck to the door mats only) and that was it. This morning it was only a few degrees above freezing. When is spring again?

My town is now enforcing no overnight street parking due to the plow trucks. So there are 4 cars crammed into the shared driveway with our neighbors. I also finally picked up a shovel for the new place along with salt. My wife knows I'm serious about moving to FL after one more bad winter.

berkeley snow.

For those of you who have never lived without snow, let me explain...

Living without snow also means living without changes of season. No Fall colors. No crunchy leaves. No apple trees. No sweaters. No crackling fires in the fireplace. It means no helping the little old lady down the street shovel her walk. It means no snow days, or snowball fights with the kids, or snowmen, or snow angels, or icicles, or igloos, or snow forts. It means no brisk bite in your lungs when you inhale the cold, and kids can't pretend they are smoking their fingers. No hot chocolate (or Hot Toddies), no hot apple cider, and no White Christmases. It also means no Spring, or cardinals, or daisies.

And there is also something wonderful that happens with snow- everything stops. Everybody takes a break. Your boss is not surprised that you don't show up for work, the neighbors all pause from their busyness for a day and help each other. It's just a break from same-ness that everyone corporately enjoys together.

I'm no fan of shoveling snow and slush. But don't assume the grass is greener, just because the grass is greener. Snow brings some very good things with it.

I love the beautiful weather of the South. But yeah, I miss snow.

Well put.

I live in Northern Ontario. If you live here and don't like winter, then what the hell are you doing living here???

Without winter and snow there is no skiing, no snowmobiling, no ice fishing, etc. Not everyone hates winter.

I have been to Phoenix in June twice in the last 4 years for a week. I will take this any day over the desert at 120F.

Another winter fan here. Hoping it gets cold enough long enough to skate on the ponds this year.

I lived with snow for my first 43 years. I get that some people like snow sports.

I am not one of those people. Never have been.

I get SVreX' point about enjoying the change of seasons, and the lush green foliage that results from winter precipitation.

I get that some people dislike temperatures above 110F, and seeing nothing green for hundreds of miles in any direction, and everything is the color of dirt. I don't like it, either.

But in this life we get to choose. I choose never seeing snow again.

Got down to 34F last night. By far the coldest night so far. I don't miss snow since I get to travel to MN every three weeks or so for work. I just want a good hard frost to take care of the bugs. Last year that didn't happen until well after the new year and we still had a mosquito and no-see-um problem on new years.
