Late night at work - heading home - notice I'm pulling right - weird - new tires. About that time, thump, thump, thump. WTF - flat. Naturally the spare is at home in the garage, just as flat. Have 3 extra sets at home. Call Mrs. Oldtin to make a tire run. No visible damage, but lots of construction around work. Did I mention I hate flats. Note to self - deal with spare.
Driving in Detroit and such, I keep a full size in my trunk. At least carry a plug kit.
I'm seeing how long a cheap simple plug will last.

The life of the tire if properly installed.

This too has been my experience. I use the sticky brown string from NAPA. Follow the instructions on the package and it seems to work great. It says it's only temporary, but I've never had one leak. I just replaced tires on the MPV, and one of those had a plug in it for about 20k miles.
me too.. those kits last forever.
I would not go racing on one.. but for day to day use, they hold up
Carry a can of "Fix-A-Flat' ?
Of course the tire has to be able to hold air otherwise.

Hate is strong word, though not strong enough. Fix a flat is a last resort option. I carry a can of slime fix a flat stuff, along with my donut spare, full size spare(wont fit in donut spot), torque wrench, two lug wrenches(one is under the front seat) and the factory jack, along with some other HF tools, but would only use it at gunpoint, or if taking the time to change the tire would probably result in me being at gunpoint(bad neighborhood).
