Any luck finding land and a builder, Bobz?
Still working at it. We found what I feel is the PERFECT lot, and instead of putting in a bid with contigencies for due diligence we were doing our do diligence first. Had a friend go check it out. 5 acres, paved dead end road, close enough access to things etc. Texted the realtor down there to put it in and he calls me back an hour later. We missed it by 12 hours. We put in a bid anyway incase the first buyer falls through because of funding or whatnot.
So we are still looking. Nothing quite catching our eye as much as that one did. Silly real estate season down there is starting to ramp up so it may get put on pause until late fall. But we are still checking daily.

Bummer.. but must feel good to be so close to making it real.
Putting in a bid on 4.5 acres in Crystal River area. Popped up late last night.
In reply to bobzilla :
Awesome! Hoping this is the one.
But Bob, have you considered not moving to Florida?
In reply to bobzilla :
Let me know when I can show up with Bob and the Suburban. We don't need much. Can actually sleep in the Suburban.
In reply to Stampie :
If we get the approval from the seller, we are actually going down next weekend. Bringing the girls along for a 3 day trip to physically see it ourselves. But it won't be ours until mid-march.
Also, it's a little dense.

Yep. Sure did a bunch of times.
Looks like our bid was accepted!
Yesterday I figured out the important stuff. We'll be 2 hours from the FIRM, 3 hours to Sebring and Daytona.
I love that area bobzilla. Yankeetown is cool, Crystal River is the uber redneck Riviera, it's semi-quiet most of the year, and great scalloping.
Also following because I too want to build a barndominium in Florida.

At this point we don't know what we are building yet, getting property we were happy with was step 1. Going down next weekend to look in person with the dogs. Gonna be a long weekend spending 28 hours in the wife's seltos with two 70lb long haired GSD's lol.
Her cousin asked last night "why were you looking HERE?". I think you pretty much laid it out for me.

I take my kids out there a few times a year to swim with the manatees, enjoy the springs, and last year they went out with the racing crew for our annual scalloping trip. And you are in a great spot to get to a lot of tracks! Congrats on the purchase and 4.5 acres is a great find! Hope you and the wife love it and have you considered not moving to Florida?

I mean, our worse case scenario is we decide to sell it in 5 years. The last owner made a 40% profit in 5 years. I we do the same it's an easy $31k investment.
Congrats!!! Just for jeeves I looked it up on google maps, and I realized how ignorant I am about Florida Geography. I always stupidly thought Tampa was near the start of the Western turn into the panhandle. Theres a TON of gulf coast shoreline between tampa and where I actually thought Tampa was, haha.
Hope it all works out for you.
In CR you'll be close to Karl. He has an endless supply of project cars to choose from.

The Hyundai dealer in New Port Richey also sold me a N car and had me out of the dealership in less than 45 minutes. Perfect for Bob.

I mean I'll need a job down there so ....

Gotta love Florida pine forest. Yours looks more mature than mine with a lot less undergrowth.
In reply to Stampie :
There's a lot of oaks, the pines are smaller. Property was bigger than I expected. I knew it was the width of ours, but over twice as deep. Brain said it was so doesn't make it comprehensible. Rained and cold all weekend and we were still happy.
In reply to bobzilla :
Yeah this weekend was like worse case Florida weather. At least the hurricanes are gone in 12 hours and you get clear weather before and after.
I have always found its best to inspect Florida land during the wettest of times. Yours looks high and dry.
In reply to Purple Frog (Forum Supporter) :
One thing I forgot was that the land there (aka sand) is nothing like home. If I'd gone tromping through those type of woods here I'd have lost a shoe to the mud. There? Nothing. No more muddy paws.
