"Seven thousand of the Sony Limited Edition Ford Focus cars will be manufactured. They will be available in the following colors: Rainforest Green, Infra-Red, or Pitch Black, as well as a brand-new color made exclusively for the Sony Limited Edition Ford Focus called Going Platinum. The special Ford Focus is expected to sell for $15,535." In my quest to buy a winter beater I picked up not only one of 7000 Sony Edition Foci but it's also in the irresistible shade of color called Going Platinum. I look forward to my $1200 investment soon turning into a retirement nest egg. I'm sure the 210,000 miles, peeling hood paint and missing subwoofer in the trunk won't hurt the value much. I can hardly wait to show it off at Ford Carlisle this year. Men will salivate. Women will swoon. Dogs will lift a leg on the tires. Level achieved: awesomeness.

There is a level of awesome there that can only be matched by the finest coachbuilders of Europe. Unfortunately, the missing Sony subwoofer is the cornerstone of the entire package, and without that...

Back in 2001 or 2002 I custom built* 10 Final Four Special Edition Pontiac Grand Ams for the dealer I worked at.

*custom modifications included and limited to installing stickers supplied by GM to existing stick units and adjusting price a few hundred dollars.

Perhaps this was the even rarer "subwoofer delete Sony Edition:

Too bad it's not a MACH Audio edition. Those came with sweet headlights:

You guys never fail to deliver.

Here's what the missing Xplode box looks like:

That explains the mystery plug dangling from the parcel shelf. Kinda glad it's not there to get in the way of hauling capabilities, because a 200k mile Focus should be able to haul mulch, dead bodies and greasy engine blocks with ease. I'm really going to enjoy having a car I don't have to care about keeping nice.

Bring it! There will be some people there who would be interested in it. Might even find someone with the missing sub. The Focus Rising club usually has over 100 cars there.

My car is also one of those special editions - a 2001 Street Edition.

I always wanted a dirt brown kona focus hatch. But sadly I've never even seen one for sale and only one in real life on the road

There used to be two around me. One even had the factory bike rack on it. I liked it.
I remember when the Mach Audio cars came out. Ordering those headlights from the dealer was a HUGE thing in the Focus community. I loved the MK1 Focus and the community that grew around it in the early 2000's.

I used to drive the same route / times to and from work with a guy that owned one for about 3 years. Always liked that color

LOL, no, I think I'll bring the Lightning. If all goes according to plan the Uber-Collectible SonyFocus should be for sale by then if anyone has some pocket lint they want to swap for it. My intention is this thing just gets me through the winter, then gets replaced by a Mustang.

Be sure to check out the almost maniacal following over at www.SonyFocusFans.org. The group at www.LimitedEditionFords.net has more technical discussions, and of course the crew at www.sonyfocusrockers.alt are very into the musical aspects of the car. I think the big meet for all of the Sony Focus cars is in Indiana in May: Sony Focuspaloosa. All in all, nice score. I remember having the poster of the Sony Limited Edition Ford Focus on my bedroom wall right next to Heather Locklear.

I forgot all about those Kona editions. Actually pretty cool, IIRC the body side molding on those had a pattern like a mountain bike tire.

I'm going to go through life with the understanding that you are joking. If you are not, please don't correct me under any circumstances. My constitution can't handle the jolt you'd be delivering.

pinchvalve may have won this thread.

I spent the morning changing the oil and doing other corrective action ignored by all prior individuals who have gazed under it's hood. The brilliant plastic design thermo housing was leaking, so replaced that. To make that easier, I removed the battery, which meant I had to replace the battery retainer bolt that snapped off. Cutoff wheel task #1. Then two of the air cleaner bolts were seized (why the F couldn't they use clips??!!) so removed that. Cutoff wheel task #2. The car isn't rusty and is easy to work on but the fasteners are junk. This goes for the plastic clips for, well, everything that are now so brittle they disintegrate.

Upside is I think this engine is a replacement. Cylinder head is inexplicably clean inside and the short block leaks not a drop from anywhere.

Smooth move genius... Now how the hell are you going to get top dollar at BJ, you no longer have some of the original bolts the car came with. Nor does it have it's original oil....

none of that matters since the original engine is long gone..
