Starts June 23!!
Yea, my 5 year old has watched the preview episode(?) about 10 times. We've designed our battle bot... he did his on paper with a crayon, I modeled it on my computer in 3D. We are going to be building a full scale cardboard prototype in the next few weeks.
And then, I'll run out of tasks and excuses not to build a real one. I guess stay tuned for a "Scarlett Dragon" build thread... eventually.

That would be cool to follow. That's a dad win right there!

I'll start a build thread in exchange for technical support... and maybe actual support.
Years ago I built bots for the battle bots competition they have at Dragon Con. My best was a homemade wedge using cordless drills motors and saw blades for wheels. My son found it in the garage and wants to resurrect it as a fully R/C bot (it was originally tether control). In a few years I'll probably do it, but I wish I didn't have to buy a Dragon Con ticket to enter (the con is a total cluster now).
I saw the preview of this season (would have missed it if it wasn't on auto record). It should be an interesting season. They are allowing drones, but I am highly suspicious they will have any real effect.
Some interesting approaches even in the preview, but unfortunately, one of the primary downfalls of most bots is bad driving. I am sure much of it is actually designing a bot that is hard to drive (e.g. two wheels), but it certainly has a large effect.
I think the drones are a bit of a gimmick. I really don't see how they will do any damage to a full sized bot, except maybe as a sort of dodge to the no entanglement weapons restriction (oops, my suspiciously stringy drone got caught in your spinner). I think the one in the preview had a drill on it! Like it's going to be able to land on a moving bot and stay there for the minutes it takes to drill through!

I'm sure you'd get tons of support from this board. I'd support you in any way I could, just don't know how much support that'd be haha.
You'll need to log in to post.
