So damned frustrated right now, trying to find some 3rd shift or part time 1st or second shift work so I can have some money to play with, get a project, have some selfworth. I have been told multiple times "Sorry even though your extremely qualified for the position we are going with someone who has some more RECENT work history." Im berkeleying penalized for taking care of my children being a good parent doing the stay at home thing, homeschooling. being a dad. Its SO berkeleying frustrating because at times I think thats the only thing I am qualified to do anymore. I was laid off from emergency industrial services in april of 2009 and except for having been at a sinking dealership for 8 1/2 months from sept 2010 to june 2011 I have been a stay at home parent, I love doing this but I cant help but feel useless as tits on a berkeleying bull. I worked for more than 12 years almost never taking a day off, many times working 30+ straight 12 hr days in a stretch. other times working 6 12s for 6-8 weeks straight. I'm at the end of my rope right now, Although I've tried explaining how I feel about this I dont think SWMBO understands why this bothers me so much. Sorry for going off on such a profane ranting steam blowoff. I know theres people out there in GRM land that understand.
I understand, but I'm in the opposite position. My part time jobs keep calling me for work and I'm losing free time. I got a call at 02:30 (that I missed) to help some guys out, then worked my regular shift that ends at 14:00, then my relief called to say he couldn't make it so I had to find someone when my 2nd job was calling to ask if I could be in at 14:30. Now I've got the first guy calling to see if I'll help him out around 00:00 tonight when I have to be back in the shop at 09:30. But... the benefit is some play money and shrinking debt. Ups and downs. Keep applying and you'll swing it.

And besides, being an involved and caring parent is NEVER BERKING USELESS. You'll find something. Hang in there.

I know that. I wouldnt change staying with the kids at all, but the looks I get applying for jobs when I tell them what I currently do. That pisses me off. Most people have no respect for a stay at home dad, the stereotype is that its all video games and lackadaisical parenting

I had the same problem. I was lucky that my wife and my now supervisor were friends and I'd had the job before. Hang in there, it will pan out.

"Project planning and staff education/development" is essentially your current job description. Use this to your advantage.
If you are good at it, spin the interview in this direction.Tell me what you accomplish. I hire people as part of my current job, what I want to hear is action. I will cut you a lot of slack on what the action is if you can convince me that you get E36 M3 done.

One job I ended up not taking actually really wanted me due to how I was able to spin parenting into what they were looking for. Multitaskimg constant change, disaster control, stay at home parents do it all. Funny thing is I basically still am one as I work overnights now, when he's asleep.
In reply to mndsm: this last job interview was 10pm to 8am Sunday thru Wednesday. Perfect schedule

But you do have a recent work history!
Job Title: Household Manager
I'm sure you can make a list of the management, purchasing, maintenance, etc. skills you have used in the performance of your job.
This morning on a whim I called a former employer to find out what they had going on. Turns out the gentleman who caused my exit and several others within a short time of his hiring as regional manager was recently "asked to explore other employment opportunities", Spoke with the new regional manager and introduced myself along with explaining my exit from the company in 2009 and got a good lead at working a nuclear outage in NO.VA. that I used to work regularly with that company. Called the guy that runs the job through Dominion energy and it was like talking to an old friend after several years. Sent him a copy of my resume and hopefully withing the next week or so I will be a long the way towards getting back to work.

Sounds like a plan ryanty, but outage work is not known as part time work. You very well may get to work nights, but 12 hr days 6 days a week isn't really part time work that I thought you were looking for. I suppose if you are planning to just work the outages at the one plant (North Anna I'm guessing) and then not work between outages, I guess that is part time in one sense, but when you are working, you will be working.
I know, I worked several outages as a full time employee with my former company (We did alot of their critical safety valves) I like north anna too its a nice plant to work

I know a bit about outages as well. A friend was a field engineer for the company I now work for. His hours were 7dayx12hrsx90days. The nice thing is that you then get 90 days off.
Been to surrey also which while not as nice as north anna is still a cool place

That sounds like refinery turnarounds, cool work but you will get nasty
