I need some help, guys. My girlfriend's got a 1st Gen Olds Bravada. The thing's started leaking oil like crazy (1qt or more/wk), and I think it's coming from the remote oil filter (she's got the 4.3 "Vortec"). It seems to be leaking from the place where the hose fittings bolt up to the main body that holds the filter. I think I could fix the thing myself, but I can't find anything that describes the procedure. It's her daily (heck, it's her "only"..) and I don't want to tear it down unless I can get it done in an afternoon. Anybody ever worked on one of these things? The only shop manual I have is the Haynes for the entire line (S10/Blazer/Jimmy/etc.) and it doesn't even mention the remote filter. Tried looking for procedures/parts (I think it just needs a gasket) online, but when I search all I get are ads from suppliers trying to sell me filters. And when I search for owners' clubs or forums, all I get are people bitching about poor fuel economy.

Anyone ever done this? Seen it done? Heard rumors?

Very common issue, get the oil filter adapter seals and a set of oil cooler lines from Autozone or NAPA and replace the parts. A very easy job that takes two to three hours. You will need a big drip pan.

Did the same job on my 95 S-10... never did reinstall the plastic belly pan. sure made oil changes smoother

Thanks, guys. So I buy the lines (locally avalible) as well as the gaskets, and do the whole thing at once. Gotcha. Don't know why I didn't just ask y'all first.

That's why I do the VReihenmotor.

Of course, since both of mine are `92s, with that well-known timing chain tensioner problem, I'm just proving you're right again....

Heh, you don't know the half of it. I was into Triumphs and BMWs before my marriage/divorce.
