BERKLEY, BERKLEY, BERKLEY YOU!

After poking around some transaction history, I see that my checking account will be changing at the beginning of next month. Change and Chase are never good.

I now have no option for free checking. If I had enough in savings or made enough each month ( or, hell, had a job) I'd be in the clear. But I don't. $12 bucks a month for the privilege of dealing with Chase's bull e36 m3. That $12 gets me 4 or five meals. I need it.

We give these greedy mother berkleyers bailout money to stay afloat and they have the balls to charge us. I'm so pissed I've used italics twice.

Berkley you, Chase Bank.

Many banks have been shut down by the feds because you and people like you weren't paying your fair share in fees. Not enough fees, not enough cash for bonuses and multi-million dollar salaries for the suits at the top. Obviously, you can't have free checking. What next? Free beer?

Werd. If you don't like the service you are receiving, go in search of other service providers. Your business should be earned, like a vote. Vote for someone other than Chase.

I use SunTrust. They don't charge me anything for having a checking account with them. Plus, they sponsor a racing team...that helps...

All of the Too Big To Fail banks are upping fees on all manner of places to make up for all the lost revenue from the newish credit card laws that made them quit raping you on the cards. Now they rape you in any number of ways.

BofA has just announced they will now charge you $6 for paying in the second half (don't remember they exact percentage) of your free 15 day grace period on your mortgage. The grace period is part of the note you signed, but if YOU DON'T HAVE A CHECKING ACCOUNT WITH BofA and BofA is the servicing agent of your mortgage (that's who you make your payments to and no, that does not mean they own your loan) and you want to pay electronically and not by stamp and paper check, then they are tacking on a fee.

Local banks and Credit Unions love you more and they show it.

The nice thing about Illinois is it seems to favor local, independent type banks. I counted over 35 banks, total, withing 5 min. of my house. Granted some are the bailout e36 m3 heads, but I hope one of the others fits me well enough to earn my business.

Before you choose another bank or credit union, I would have a quick look at their Texas Ratio. More info here: http://www.depositaccounts.com/blog/2010/11/texas-ratio-list-for-banks-and-credit-unions.html

That's all I have to add, too.

Local banks rock.

I actually have a mortgage with a local bank, and they own it. So cool.

Look for the Baxter credit union. They should take anyone, and have locations in Vermin Hills, Crystal Lake, and Round Lake.

My brother and I have been dealing with Chase concerning my dad's mortgage. If you think their checking account stuff is screwed up try dealing with their mortgage idiots, er, personnel.

My mortgage was sold to Chase bank last year. My wife set up automatic payments out of our checking account. One month they charged twice on the mortgage payment overdrafting our account. I called Chase and got the auto pay bull crap turned off and my money was returned. Next month wouldn't you know I payed my mortgage and they auto-charged! Overdraft again. I hate Chase bank.

+1 on a credit union

Yeah, remember that any for-profit bank exists for one reason; to maximize shareholder value. That means getting every last cent from every last potential customer any way they can. My credit union is owned by me and every other person with money there, we are the customers and the shareholders.

Yeahhhh... we went through that when we were trying to buy a house this past fall.

We ended up just walking away. Wasn't worth the hassle.

Up until the first of the year, we had our business accounts with BoA. Need to see somebody? 20-30 minute wait in the lobby, every time. Try to call? Same thing, transferring all around. Have had our personal accounts at a small local bank, Community Bank of Broward. Always greeted by name, could just walk in and sit down with the manager, just nice, personal service. Fees are still there, but less than BoA. They have all my bank business now. Because of the international basis of our business, we did get some raised eyebrows, but all worked out well.

Absolutely. I quit doing business with banks nearly 10 years ago. No regrets, wish I'd done it sooner.

Funny, I have chase and I do automatic payments (not withdrawls) regularly with no issues other than the ones I cause.
Big difference is one of my accounts is business so the personal account is free. Even when there is no money in the personal it is still free.

And again, a +1 for Credit Unions.

I was a WaMu customer, and then Chase bought them out. Service went from fantastic to E36 M3, for no reason they'd tell me they jumped my CC interest to THIRTY percent, and I started seeing fees pop up everywhere.

I promptly paid of the CC, canceled it, and closed all my accounts (I had to go back TWICE to do that, as they gave me some BS about a pending charge on the account that had to clear the first time).

I went across the street to the local credit union, and I couldn't be happier.

One thing I do hear get brought up when local CUs are mentioned is ATMs. Most of the CUs have agreements to be able to share ATMs. Pretty much kills any reason to give your money to bailout banks.
