The article said: A classic toy car is being inducted into an auto museum in Cleveland - and it outsold every other car in the U.S. in 2008. The Cozy Coupe, a plastic cherry-red sports car, allows toddlers to sit on a bench-style seat and poke their legs through to the ground. When they start walking, the car begins to go. On Saturday, it will take its place next to historically significant automobiles at the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum. The Cozy Coupe sold 457,000 units in 2008, topping the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. In the '90s, it outsold both the Accord and Ford Taurus. It would land in the top-20 best-selling models of all time, if considered, having sold more than 10 million units in its 30-year history. The museum will house one of the first Cozy Coupes to come off the production line in 1979. The Cozy Coupe is made by The Little Tikes Co. in Hudson, Ohio. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Hrm. The 20xx challenge rules DO NOT exclude Cozy Coupes......

In my neighborhood growing up, there must have been 6-7 Cozy Coupes. So, naturally, we big kids would stuff smaller kids inside as ballast, and derby the e36 m3 out of them. Full contact. More than a few of us endowed smacking curbs. Fun.

Me and my friends lived on a street with an impressive hill. Only one of us (not me) had a cozy coupe. Even though we had outgrown it by a couple years, we'd take turns going down that hill. Whoever didn't would get a Radio Flyer with the handle pulled back upwards to use as a very twitchy steering control. We'd also go down lying on our backs or stomachs on skateboards. Was a pretty big hill - we were stupid. I put a speedometer on my bike when I was a little older and hit an honest-to-goodness 30 MPH with some insane pumping and gear-shifting. I thought it was pretty funny at the time that I was exceeding the 25 MPH speed limit.

I pointed out to the wife just the other day the similarities in size size and shape between the cozy coupe and the smart car.

So, if you can't afford a smart car.........

I grew up at the shore... about a flat a place as you can get outside of kansas. I am also a bit too old to have gotten a crazy coupe'.. but a neighbor's kid had a sweet pedal powered porsche

True enough, a good physics lesson on what happens when you steer too sharply and end up sliding down the hill on your butt.

Cozy Coupes have zero steering. Only Sir Issac Newton controls that thing.

My 11 month old son got his first one yesterday(a hand me down from a cousin). I put him in it, and he instantly made car noises, makes me so damn proud. I may have to paint it up to match my race car.

This isn't the 1st time the "Cozy Coup" has topped the sales charts. I think it's been THE best seller for the better part of a decade.

They always leave out the trucks. The F series trucks sold 515,513 units in the same year (2008). The Chevy Silverado did 465,065. For 33 years running the Ford has been the best selling vehicle in the country.

But the Cozy Coupe is still more awesome!
