So my wee MX3 has been burning oil lately but I've tried to stay on top of it by topping up regularly. It's been mostly sitting in the big city while I drive pressers, just picked it up on Friday and brought it home. On the highway today, an old fart in a Caddy merge-drifted into my lane doing about 70-80, I did a quick downshift from 5th, accidentally into 2nd. It hit the rev limiter and I kinda knew it wasn't good. Still the car was running okay, and I exited the highway. Made it about four blocks and all the lights came on and it died. Tried to baby it home on back roads, but everytime I slowed, it completely died. By this time, it's knocking. Got it towed home... looks like a rod. Tow driver was like the living embodiment of Tow Mater.
The good news is... I found a low mileage KLZE (200hp)

I'm ~ahem~ negotiating with someone with a low-mileage KLZE, with chipped ECU & stage 2 clutch. Hope this goes through, it will make this nice handling little car come alive.
Video of ailing engine? Want to hear knocking.

I can probably do that tomorrow.
Sounds horrible.

Keep your fingers crossed for me... seller is going to give me a great deal on engine + goodies - but all hinges on other buyer backing out...

Do it now, neighbors will love it.
So the nods are rockin', huh? Sorry to hear that.
But more HP is on the way? That's a good thing.
There is an MX3 for sale near me (Brantford area) for $300.
If you don't get your motor, want me to ask about it? Aside from being auto, it doesn't look bad.
Lesley, even the lowly KLDE will make that car fly, and you can get a complete running driving donor for a grand.

what would a KLZE mx3 run in the 1/4 mile with intake and exhaust, street tires, properly running? (approximately)
just trying to place it in my mind against other cars acceleration wise

The rev limiter is supposed to protect from this happening. Sounds like it was set too high.

yeah but if you're rolling at 80 mph and shift into second gear, you will mechanically force the motor to spin faster than the rev limiter would normally allow

Yeah, and it's been losing oil lately, so over-revving it like that just wasn't good.
Zomby woof... I'm going to hold out for a KLZE... the body on mine is perfect other than the paint is really ugly (boat paint).
No idea what it would do in a quarter mile, all I know is that I had this car on the big track at Mosport and had a blast. Not very powerful, but it handled great.
Does the KLZE weigh the same as the old engine? Im new to the Jap world and have no idea what engine is what.

The current V6 is 1.8 litre, while the KLZE is 2.5. Not sure of the exact weights.

Low 14s with a good driver.
With FULL bolt ons, you could reasonably expect to dip into the high 13s. KLZEs are no joke. Couple that with the incredibly tight gearing of the MX3 trans, and that sucker will fly, and the noise it makes will make pants tight everywhere.
To put the noise into perspective, it's easily on the levels of epicness of the VR6 for title of the best sounding V6 ever, just in an entirely different way.
Lesley, keep us posted. I have a K8 with 80k miles on it that runs like a bat out of hell. I'm not real psyched about shipping it, but if it comes down to it, i'll help you out.

The weights are so similar it's not worth worrying about it. Same exterior dimentions, just bigger internals.

So, disaster creates opportunity. Good.
Been wondering, what is a farking rod and how do you blow one ?
It's kind of like a Farging Icehole. Those Bastiges really get you down because they are a Somonabitch Cork-Soakers who are just trying to Bullshtein you!
