OK, right off the bat I'll admit that I know very little about home audio, so go easy on me. I have a Polk Audio PSW50 subwoofer. It isn't working right. It just makes some distorted noise rather than what one might expect from a subwoofer. I assume the driver needs replacement, but I don't know this for sure. I haven't had much luck searching for an exact replacement speaker. How can I be sure it is the driver that needs replacement rather than an amplifier or some other issue? How do I know what replacement drivers would work? How do I know which replacement drivers are any good? Any specific suggestions?

I've tried the home audio forums, but they are a little over my head. Plus, I just seem to trust GRM people's advice on fixing just about anything.

Call Polk CS.

1-866-764-1801.

Their customer service is amazing, and they'll be able to get you the parts to replace, and probably troubleshoot it over the phone with you.

It's pretty likely it's the amp.

If the replacement parts are more than say... $75, and you've got the change to grab a new sub for around $225, look at grabbing the PSW505 from Newegg. Miles better sub.

If it is the amp, I suspect I'll just buy a new subwoofer. Thanks.
