re: Removability; what about something a simple as painters tape over the steel frame, then construction adhesive, then the luan and screws? When separating, the painters tape will be the weak link, but *should* still bond with the adhesive enough to prevent the luan from getting wavy.

Update:  Ordered the steel today.  I got the 1" 16 ga.  20 sticks of 24'

SV, I have a ton of coffin/casket locks.  They would be darn sweet.  I could even drill the steel so I could allen wrench from the back.

I think I would want to cut the steel framing to inset the locks and weld them in to regain the rigidity.... at least for rigging/flying.  If the coffin lock is on the back, then the attachment would allow for flexing forward.  I would want the tension point in the middle of the tube to prevent that.

I also considered draw hasps, or a clamping system for floor-mount options.  These would pair well with your jigged pin idea.

Update.  They're built.  I'm currently in the process of drilling 240 holes with a jig so I can easily bolt them together.  No lauan on them yet, but it isn't immediately needed for this show.

Turned an old 4x8 work surface into a jig with a little tweaking.

I can actually lay down a fair bead when I get the settings right

120 holes yet to drill and I'll be done.

All of them measured corner to corner within 1/32" of square.
