I bought an alarmingly cheap AR in 10mm, wasn't really looking for one but it was the cost of a cheap upper for the whole gun.
I am gonna get a 50 Beowulf upper for it someday

That is pretty cool. 10mm does a lot when stepped up from a pistol. Olympic or somebody else? What mags?

It's an Olympic and it came with a reworked Uzi magazine, I haven't been able to snag one of the bigger mags they made yet
Is the 10mm AR straight blowback, or gas?
I built a 9mm AR a while back and the fact that it was blowback drove me crazy to the point I sold it and bought an MP5 clone. I would think blowback with 10mm pressures would be a bit sketchy...

It is blowback but it seems to be doing well. Hi point even makes a straight blow back pistol now which is alarming, I agree.

Would you reload it or are there enough commercial options to make it worth it?
I don't reload and no, there are not enough commercial options out there.
Went to the in door range yesterday and the new ventilation system was not working properly. No practice for me.
I have added a several new things to my collection over the last couple months that I was hoping to plink with but no joy. I was also going to take out some of the more obscure things I have that I don't shoot very often like my 2004 SW 22a target pistol. The indoor season is starting up and I keep saying I am going to join but I always seem to find reasons not to show up at the open practice.

Stay tuned.
I'll figure out a scope and bipod and magazines soon.
Ok I have to ask. What did you go with?
In reply to dean1484 :
That 20" PSA blem linked earlier. I couldn't afford much, and this way I can buy ambidextrous stuff if I feel it necessary, a bipod, good scope, and lots of rounds.
dean1484 said:Those are excellent value for the money!!!
I'm disappointed that the world has come to the point where I believe it a reasonable precaution. I was chatting with tunadad and told him that I bought a rifle. He mentioned that he took out his firearms and was cleaning and preparing them too. I guess familial worry given the global situation. He's in NY, so my rifle is insane to him.
Anyway thanks for all the help. I'm happy to hear suggestions on scope and bipod too.

Shooting with a sling fell out of vogue when soldiers started wearing armor. The need to keep the plate facing incoming rounds outweighed the precision benefits of a sling. I would put learning how to shoot with a sling ahead of getting a bipod.
Project Appleseed is a good place for that.

Qft. I'm not a big guy, but I can comfortably and accurately shoot my 10lb rifle offhand. And there's the added benefit of spreading the recoil and beating up your shoulder a lot less.
Speaking of optics, I'm shopping for a dot for my 5.56 pistol. Leaning towards a Sig romeo5, but open. Lightness and shake-awake are priorities. Also price.

Sling works sitting and prone, too.
Reference "The Art of the Rifle" by Jeff Cooper on sling usage.

I lean towards Primary Arms for stuff in the lower price range. I have a Sig Romeo MSR on one of my .22s, and I don't like the ergonomics. I don't think you're going to find shake awake in that price range.
For a service quality optic, I really like the new Holosun AEMS. More money, but much better for a 'serious' gun. Great field of view through the optic and very compact. Has shake awake.

Holosun makes decent stuff. I like the different redicles that you can get. Not the best but far from the worst. I have a half dozen on various things and only had one issue. It was a 507kx2. The emitter came loose. Other than that they have been fine.
I picked up a WAZA today and to sweeten the deal this came with it.
it was open but full. The interesting thing was that it is brass casing and they are packed in 15 round box's. The normal tuna cans have 20 round box's. I don't read Russian so I don't know exactly what it is but is shoots much better than the steel case stuff in the tuna cans.

What's your budget for optics? Don't forget the mount/rings...
I don't know. I know I need something for general use, and am still researching.
The rifle is still not here, which is dissapointing. The ammo arrived, and my son gleefully announced that to my neighborhood when he grabbed the box. It's pricey, so I only got 500 rounds.
Traded a guy at work my 4586 smith for an ar-pistol. It had the side folding buffer tube attachment and no rear sight. Got it home and the side folding mechanism had been bubba's pretty good, so I tore it down and reinstalled the normal buffer tube and removed the extension from the BCG. Did a thorough cleaning and realized they had cut down the buffer retainer and spring. Thoroughly bubba'd . Went to a local shop and spent 5 bucks for new parts. Slapped my cheapo rds from the 16" onto it and put a couple mags through. Shoots well, handles steel case just fine. RDS was actually spot on even swapping over so I left it alone. Damn is it loud.... I kinda want to shoot it at night to see the fireball it has to create.
current nationwide stay in the brace rule means I can leave the brace in for now.
I do need to find an inexpensive scope for the 16". Nothing crazy but would be nice to see things 100-150 yards out.

Should look something like this...

You guys should look at Arken Optics. The EPL series is damn good for the price, even without the current 25% off deal. Their new 1-8X LPVO looks pretty good as well, but I haven't seen one in person. I'm not a big fan of the reticle, but it would still be a great budget choice for a 5.56 AR. I have an SH series and an EPL series and the glass is as good or better than anything 2x the price.
