Bored and self indulgent GMT800 adventure talk

I haven't been thinking about cars much lately, but something has my brain...

I have a longing to travel north. I want to drive to Dead Horse.

I am fighting an urge to buy an ex Fire Chief 60k GMT800 Tahoe SSV. I want to sort any maintenance, put a roof rack on it, repaint the steelies civilian silver, load up some spares and Jerry cans, throw an android auto head unit, ham and CB radios and some KO2s on it, and load it up with camping gear.

Watching videos of the trip, it seems GMT800 trucks aren't rare up there, so parts should be gettable if things go pear-shaped.

I just wanna get away, so I guess that's the self indulgent part.

I vote take the trip. No part on a gmt800 is rare and the Tahoe may be the best vehicle for the task.  Your title grabbed me since I bought an ex-fire chief Suburban 2500 and had a great time with it. It had needs and needed sorting, but everything it needed could wait and it drove fine even with my lax hand at the maintenance log.
