So I'll be in Boston for a few days and then after that will stop by to visit my mum. It's her birthday so I wouldn't mind to bring something. Unfortunately she is absurdly difficult to get things for.
Is there anything specific that Boston is known for she might like? Local things, MIT pariphenilia, hipster-y regional snack foods, etc.? No liquid or booze as I'm flying carry-on. No Red Sox stuff because she hates sports.
Open to ideas. I don't know the city at all so suggestions where to look around would also help.
Everyone in my family loves the cannolis from Mike's Pastries.. . That's all I got :)
Bovas is where the locals go. Mikes is a tourist trap.
If she's in Boston, can't she get this stuff all the time? How about something outside her neighborhood?
What's your budget?

I wasn't as impressed by Bovas... but maybe they were having a bad night the one time I tried it?

According to the locals it much more accurately represents what you get in Italy as opposed to Mikes. Since I have not been to Italy who knows.
There is no denying Mikes stuff is good. The lace cookie chocolate things are amazing!!!!
Bovas is more like the "Soup Nazi" of bake shops. I really like the Pizza and the Calzones at Bovas.

Boston Terrier.
He's your 'therapy dog' on the plane and you may never have to buy her another gift.

Does you Mom have good teeth still? If so--- get her some salt-water taffy. Good stuff!

I gotta say that Bovas smelled amazing, but we weren't there for dinner...
We'll give it a full meal sometime to see, there's worse ways to spend an evening than testing the local food/cannoli offerings :)

In Boston now. It's been a while since I saw so many cars with evidence of "urban kisses." Just to clarify, mum is in Toronto and has never been here, but loves travel-related bric-a-brac, so something Bostonian would be perfect.
Salt water taffy is a good idea, although maybe more so for my dad. I'm going to check out the MIT campus store too.

NOPE.
NOPE NOPE NOPE.
That's only slightly less terrifying to me than those stories about people finding snakes inside toilets in Florida.

Maybe I've been desensitized by selling them for 8 years, but as long as the rubber bands are on those big old sea bugs are harmless. And tasty.
Come to think of it, playing with lobsters is my favorite part of my job.
