Tire Rack has some 2008 production tires (Dunlops) on clearance. The deal is really good--$85/per and a $60 rebate/set. I know they store their tires in optimal conditions, but am I asking for trouble? I will have them worn out in 1-2 years.

I wouldn't worry as long as you are bright enough to pay attention to cracking, shaking, out of round feel...
What are they for? Setting fast times somewhere, or just driving? If it's just driving then it should be fine (I have 2007 date code tires on my truck that are great, and those have been stored poorly, mounted on my truck). If its fast times then I'd be more worried that 2008 compounds simply aren't as good as new compounds than the age. That's just me.
Got a set. Sport Maxx TT; 215/45-17 for $405 shipped and still get a $60 rebate. They rate well, especially in the wet.
