Even comes with a theme song:
Fun fact:
That thing accidentally scooped up a Cat D-8 and didn't even notice it. See that yellow blob at the top of the gantry near the top bucket tooth? Yeah, that's a Cat D-8:
It's that big.

It's funny seeing Battletech brought up in this forum and someone running a game of it. which Mechwarrior ed are you running for the group?
So, on the side of uprisings and unionization and such. The starting point is generally the Battle of Blair Mountain, and the Coal Wars.
Blair Mountain was one battle within the Coal Wars and the largest labor uprising and second largest armed uprising against the US with #1 being the Civil War. It is one of the purest sources of the term "Redneck" as the miners wore red bandanas around their necks as identifying marks.
The Bonus Army and the govt treatment of veterans also may be of interest.

Don't quite know yet. I have old notes from someone online who told me what changes I should make for my games since AtoW is kind of a garbage fire with rules.

Thank you! I'll look it up today; it'll give the players good reason to shun a parent faction.
Here's some of the kitbashes I'm going to use as inspiration- I have a bag of blitz hanging around just for things like this thanks to the Dark Age pieces being both cheap AND kind of trashy.
Some more general thoughts on imagining The Rednecks of the Future:
1. Imagine what future transportation might look like on a sparsely populated planet where there's very little in the way of roads, railroads, or other infrastructure. Then imagine it's either been patched together without a supply of new spare parts for decades (or, since this is Battletech, quite possibly since the Star League) or cobbled together out of various pieces of other equipment. A Florida swamp buggy is a good modern example of such a thing - they're put together out of various bits of truck and agricultural equipment.

In the Battletech universe, this may be things like two or three pairs of small mech legs coupled together to make a mechanical horse that you ride like a dirt bike (considering their obsession with walking vehicles). Airships might also make sense if your planet is not too windy.
2. Think of what sort of mischief or other inappropriate uses somebody might come up with for future technology. For example, how would that myomer in Battletech work for bungee jumping?
3. A lot of the Battletech universe seems to be "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire - IN SPACE!", following the view that the Western world collapsed into a dark age after the fall of the Roman empire. Most historians these days that's a crock - some have even argued that it's the complete opposite, and overthrowing Roman oppression was what allowed progress to happen. It was shortly after the fall of Rome that you started to see things like three field crop rotation, collars that wouldn't strangle a horse if you pulled a heavy load, and even the invention of the chimney. (In Roman times, you'd have just set up something that resembled a modern Weber grill inside, if you could afford one. And remember that nobody had glass windows then, either...)
That might be a bit of food for thought for a subversive take on the Battletech official story - what if the official version of their history and the source books came from a group with a rather misplaced sense of nostalgia for the Star League era? What if the people on your planet see the Star League as a bunch of shiny happy people who mostly collected a ton of taxes and imposed a bunch of pointless rules, and didn't give them very much in return?
Or, more specific to rednecks in the Battletech universe - how about having a group of characters who are loyal to Amaris (for those not familiar with Battletech's storyline, he's regarded as the worst traitor in history and blamed for bringing down the Star League) with some obvious similarities to the guys who have Confederate flags all over the place? They could be left over from some group of his supporters centuries ago - either they had simply been promised money, power, or other rewards then and a legend has grown over time of how Amaris had some sort of lost cause, or perhaps Amaris really did have a plan to bring down a hated secret police group, root out widespread corruption, or had some other well intentioned goal the official source books don't tell about.
