I bought some 50AE ammo and other hard to otherwise source things like powder, primers and cases at a reasonable price. The 44 mag cases were the same price as Amazon. Can't beat that.

I actually just visited our Cabela's on Wednesday. I nearly put a massive dent on my savings account due to a beautiful Browning X-bolt they had there.

I did however snag some much needed 8mm Mauser ammo to feed my k98 though.

I have noticed that their prices aren't bad. Especially if you look for sales. This one has two (had 3) Star Super B's for $250 ea that have been calling me. STOP IT. I CAN'T HEAR YOU. NA-NA-NA-NA....

The 50AE ammo was $32 for 20. That's actually a pretty fair price. 1K magnum pistol primers were $31 and change. By the time I figure a haz-mat fee, I come out pretty far ahead there. $100 for a brick of 22's was a bit high. They were "match" in some brand I never heard of. Passed. M48a for $350. I think that's about the going rate these days. Hundred dollar days are long gone on those.

Some prices were pretty good, some were overly optimistic. I spent a good chunk of time browsing their gun library and realized I eventually need a sharps in my collection.

The internet and the $20 FFL transfer at the LGS has spoiled me, the only reason I find myself in either BassPro or Cabela's anymore is to physically lay my hands on something that if I like, will likely be bought online cheaper at a later date. Otherwise I'm killing time, and checking to see if they might have .22 WMR in stock at a reasonable price, they never do.

I was in BassPro this week over lunch, the white trash comment held true that day. Some mouth breather was arguing with a worker at the optics counter about wanting a FFP scope, but not going to pay "Loupolt" prices, because "Loupolt" is over priced, no other demands, just FFP (my guess is he read it on the internet) and not "Loupolt." Sad thing was there were at leas half a dozen other folks that had taken a number and were waiting their turn to be helped at the gun/optics counter while said mouth breather was ranting on.

Yeah, the "gun library" section is cool. That's where the Super B's were. And there was the only 7mm Mauser (7x57) in the store there, for like two or three large. It's been there a while. Some kind of big name rifle, more or less a Mauser design. Interarms Mark X or something, in with the dangerous game rifles. They had a new semi-auto Thompson with the drum mag. It was a bit high but it sold. I gotta be careful around that place.

Yeah, you need a Sharps in 45-110. Just because.

New Production Select Fire/Full Auto are banned(post '86), the new versions being sold now are semi-automatic only and cost between $1-3k from what I have seen.

You can still purchase a pre-'86 Thompson machine gun so long as you jump through 9+ months of hoops & fees from the Federal Government, don't live in a state that hates it's people, and bring $20k+ to the table(which is ridiculous)

No, not banned. You can buy a full auto one if you live in a free state, but bring your REALLY big check book. Like 30 large or something. Maybe more. The semi-auto versions are still readily available and back in production. Wholesale is around 12-1300, I think, and that comes with a drum mag and a box. Funny thing is that the company that is making them now is owned by the Moonies. They also make the Kahr pistol brand and are reputed to put out good quality stuff.

I grew up about 5 miles from a Bass Pro. Frequented it often. As someone who is only really a vacation fisherman and a boater, it is fine for me. Same with Gander Mountain. I can at least find my favorite lure at both of them, which cannot be said for most places except for a few Wal-Marts and one K-Mart.

For some reason I was thinking they got caught up in the assault weapon ban or something to do with a pistol long barrel deal. Maybe you can't sell them with the detachable stock. I can't check it out at work. You know, filters.

You mean the CLINTON ASSAULT WEAPON BAN? That only lasted 10 years and only banned stoopid stuff like bayonet lugs and didn't even apply to real assault weapons. The BUSH ASSAULT WEAPON BAN is actually still in place, but it only applies to foreign made guns with certain features and which aren't actually even assault weapons either. The Auto Ordinance Thompson is US Made, thus exempt from the BUSH BAN.

That could also be due to seasonal things like hunting seasons and the upcoming holiday shopping season.

Me and another Dad I know take our kids to the Bass Pro Shop at Discover Mills just to get the kids out of the house. They love it. My boys (ages 3 & 6) will climb on every single boat, 4-wheeler, and side-by-side while making vroom sounds. I keep them under control at least, so no letting them go wild. We then check out the big aquarium and spend $2 at the shooting gallery. Then off to the food court for chicken nuggets. Mom gets a few hours of peace, the boys get some good Dad time, and I spend less than $20 for the whole experience.

I'm not in a position to verify it but I thought Gander Mountain Corporate headquarters was here in St Paul, Mn?

For some reason I can't get warm and fuzzy about any of the outdoor big box stores. I guess I feel like I'm paying more for fishing gear than I should at these places. Not sure if my personal biases on their pricing is justified or not.

It just depends upon where you are and what misguided laws your locality has.....

I have yet to find anyone who can actually put together a rational excuse for why I cannot walk into a FFL dealer, pass the background checks with flying colors, walk out that day with a select fire Glock 18, and live my life happily in eternal amusement.

Even the NRA folks who endorsed that mess can't answer it.

On a related note, I think Indiana finally did away with the prohibition on Short Barrelled Shotguns earlier this year.....a petty remnant of the gangster era fear mongering.
