My favorite band of all time. I have all of their stuff, and even pre-ordered the new one on vinyl, and digital download. I got the vinyl, and was able to download the album last Tuesday. As far as the new album it isn't thier greatest, but very Cake-like if you know what I mean. I am really loving "Long Time",and "Bound Away" so far. I can see why some would dislike the band, but I like their sound, and the off-beat lyrics, and such. I was hooked in the 90's,and still listen to them everyday. I like more of thier not so commercially accepted stuff though. Well I guess most of their stuff is not widely accepted.
I disagree on their stage presence, and I have seen the band live at least 8 times. .All but one show was in Boston at a small theater, and they were great every time. I also saw them once in Seattle at the Bumbershoot festival, and they were really good there as well. I plan to see them again in Boston in April I think.Their best attribute is they sound very close to the recording even live in concert. Very talented artists even though you may not like their music. The bass lines are alway good, and Vince on the horns is really talented. Not enough horns in music now.
Sorry for the long post, but I really like CAKE the band, but not the food. Yuck!!!! Well I like ice cream cake.
I spotted it on iTunes, might take a look.
"The Distance" is my favorite driving song, BTW.
Can't really say I'm a fan of the band.
And as you know, I prefer pie.

BTW, I didn't realize they came out with a covers album. I've got the b-sides album with "War Pigs" on it, but I'll have to look into this cover album you speak of.
That's the one of which I speak.
Also off topic. But is cheese cake cake or pie?
I like the band too.
I vote cake,as it has the word cake in its name.
I like the band. Their stuff is usually entertaining in a quirky way.
I love cake, both kinds! I guess I'm kind of a fanboi, I have every album (and just downloaded this new one).
I knew you were cool Tom,and that was mostly from finding out you are a fellow Sagataurii. Now I know you are a fan boi of CAKE like myself clinches it.

Mostly massive narcissism on the part of John McCrea, pulling dick moves in the local music scene while getting big, which from what I hear is fairly common when the fish is too big for the pond, but then they haven't really given back to where they came from, so it's mostly John that I don't like but he pretty much is cake. The music is catchy and interesting lyrically but I find it doesn't catch and hold me.
Jim Gaffigan is hilarious!! Good video!!
Oh and Cake the band sucks.
Monotone singing/lackluster music =

I like pie. Two pieces. Or one large piece but it must be very good pie.

We're baking a cake right now. Grandson's 21st birthday. Much better than some goofy band I never heard of.
Just to make you feel even older, that band debuted in the mid-90's.

Not a very represenative story ... Does not account for digital sales of singles ... the new real market for music. Like the Fifties we are moving to a single driven not album driven sales.
BTW Love the Cake ... will be downloading cuts as soon as I make room on my iphone.
I agree with the pro-pie contingent. Cake is teh suck.
