It split at the block cylinder interface. The heads are still there.

Well, rather they are what you're seeing being launched. The block is down in the chassis somewhere, probably a much smaller piece of the now split in two puzzle.

This looks like it could end badly. Isn't a steep bank during takeoff a great way to lose lift?
Jeebus, here's the video (no wreck): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt8dXI0cCJk
When I was at Oshkosh in '74 they were doing that with a C-5. Empty, minimal fuel load. They were standing on the brakes, winding the crap out of it, and doing very high-performance takeoffs on a very short runway. That was impressive to watch.

No, lift is solely a function of angle of attack, velocity, & air density…an airfoil and the gas it’s interacting with have no regard for their orientation relative to the earth.
Having said that, when the wings aren’t perpendicular to the direction of gravity, some of the lift generated has a horizontal component. In order to hold the vertical component of lift constant in a bank, angle of attack and/or velocity must be increased.
Bottom line, making a steep bank any time you’re near the ground is dangerous as you may exceed the airfoils maximum angle of attack resulting in a stall / spin condition in an effort to get a sufficient vertical lift component.

The original of that, with sound, is well worth searching out on YooTubies.

I've seen that before. Given what aircraft it is, that's a stupendous feat of flying coupled with utter fearlessness.
