Try the Taconic Parkway.

Just drove this over Christmas weekend. I like no trucks, hate the troopers. Gotta watch for deer too.

Pleasant Valley, NY relies on traffic tickets for 100% of all of their municipal funding. It is also the worst run traffic court I've ever seen.

Also have to watch out for cars merging in at a practical stand-still from the short entrance/exit lanes and the occasional crossing traffic.

Not a bad road certainly, but a weird balance between "get somewhere in a timely manner" highway and "enjoy the drive" two-lane. I think I may need to drive it a few more times to make a yea/nay decision...

Meow what do you think?

I keep meaning to find the DVD of the original 1965 release with Jimmy Stewart, George Kennedy, Ernest Borgnine etc, it was great! After seeing the trailers, I could not bring myself to watch the new one.

The new madness I've noticed is people in parking lots trying to merge into the main lane starting to pull out in front of me because they assume I'm going to slow down to 1-2 MPH like the rest of the drivers. I've got heavy duty suspension and over 7 inches of ground clearance. That 2" speed hump isn't slowing me down at all; I'm going to maintain my 15mhp speed.

Thanks to be staying where you are!

I really think that people don't realize they hit potholes harder than they hit these little guys.

If you can drive down to Ohio, I can drive the rest of the way. I'm headed down this year. I went last year, and I won't miss it again as long as I live.
