Plus this, I am internally conflicted.
I learned on one like this:
at about age 12. I'd already been riding motorcycles for 4 years, so I had a good grasp of the mechanics of it.
Had a lot of fun with one like this, (just a bit more "character":
What really taught me to love driving a stick:
trying to revive the "i learned to drive stick in one of these" sub-thread:
my dad's '64 greenbrier was not nearly this nice, but i learned how to drive a manual trans in that thing when i was about 11 years old, so 1978-ish.
Loving the learned to drive stick sub-thread.
I learned in this:
And this:
My father had a "thing" for cheap, crap cars. Growing up as a kid though, my dad had a 260Z and a Fiat 124 Spider as family cars(no back seats) by the time I could drive he had garbage cars that sucked.

I have seen one of those in person in Hillsboro Oregon at an RV dealer I think it was.

My Dad had one of those in the early '60's; an unbecoming two-tone green.
I liked it, but he drove it like it was an American tank and it rebelled; he didn't like it.

The whole thing about the hotlink thread is that they're not hosted on this forum, and we don't have permission to view those images, no matter what page the link's embedded in. I learned to drive a stick in one of these (same color):
I believe it had IPD swaybars and bilsteins, but it also had 230,000 miles on it and no power. It also had 185s on the front and 165s on the rear, which my young self had a fair amount of fun with.
Stick:
Learned on a first year Ford EXP owned by my sister's boyfriend (now husband)
The EXP had a unforgiving clutch. I got better at it on my sister's first year, no option TC3.
First manual I bought was an '83 Rabbit.
I learned stick from my sister's now ex in one like this, same shade of green.
Also learned in one like this, became my first car.

My brother's was the exact same blue but had the steelies. The water pump was bigger than the engine. It kept popping head gaskets, he wouldn't spring for the $35 it would cost to resurface the head to keep that from happening. IIRC the HG's were $8 apiece.
It once popped a HG on the way to Myrtle Beach and blew a hose off the heater core. He had a pair of maracas, stuck one in each hose and tightened the clamps down, then drove it the rest of the way.
