I wouldn't call the pie cuts a "style." Really it's just that Japanese culture puts a very high value on the type of craftsmanship you need to do something like fabricating titanium. They're willing to pay for it, too.
Are those Gurney headers titanium!? It doesn't look like it, but they are certainly gorgeous.
An alternative to the pie cutting is filling titanium tubes with sand and bending them while extremely hot, demonstrated here on an AC Sanctuary Zephyr.
