"The Highwayman." Nine episode TV show from 1987. Cool TV movie called "Terror on the Highway."

There was an under trailer tractor that was designed for safety and aero purposes. Ran around Europe for a few years.

I remember that, what was the name of that show? One of the truck drivers was Australian.

Edit: Nevermind, helps if I read....

In reply to Conquest351:

Yup and the cab turned into a Gazelle helicopter.

and the Gazelle also turned into one of the baddest movie helicopters of all time.

Can you imagine doing a locked up slide right into the truck in front of you? The axle blisters right through your windshield and then the big axle behind you makes sure your spouse won't have a veggie in the living room for the rest of your life.

More bad movie trucks.

Goliath from Knight Rider. Boy was this an anticlimactic image to find based on my memories of the show...

Actually one of the main reasons for developing this type of tractor is that tractor/trailer combos in Europe (and especially in Germany) have a maximum length limit in addition to the maximum gross weight limit. Stuffing the whole tractor under the trailer means you'll end up with more cargo space.

More European truck weirdness:

Actually, in the original image up there, the tractor is completely under the trailer, so in an impact, maybe the trailer front would take the brunt....

who are we kidding, the hitch would snap rocketing your short truck into the axles of the trailer and then your own trailer would fall on you, just for spite.

I do love the concept, and I would so dig driving a semi with the interior and seating position of a mid eighties Ferrari.

Several companies built cab under trucks to test, but noone outside of a few Germans wanted to drive them.

1965 Bussing

This was built in the states prior to length laws being changed.
It then went to Germany and became a piece of art.
