I saw this car at the Lemay Museum. There is a great picture out there of Smokey standing next to the car and with the driver is sitting in the car. He has a look of terror on his face. Luckily for the driver the car never raced as it crashed during practice. If you look close at the driver's pod the thing is built like a street side car yet it did have an 1/8" inch of protective fiberglass around it......racing back when sex was safe and racing was dangerous..

Steel Palace would be the venue. If Smokey crawled that far North it would be worth a writeup

Well they do and they don't. Nowadays, they are called the McMansions.

There are precious few of those old buildings around here, because they were torn down for new development once they got in such bad condtion. They didn't hold up all that well. Water does terrible things to buildings.

Because they kill a whole bunch of people on short tracks. Long tracks would be a monster.
I must have been lucky to have never seen any deaths at any of the supermodified races I've been to.
These are all super badass, but can they turn right as well? Can these be made to handle or is the offset too great?

The tires I use for my RX7 are from these. Very grippy and surprisingly affordable.

Inflation is a killer. Mostly construction was well done for the era, but like someone else said, 100 years worth of rainstorms can do most anything in.

Waverly, before the restorations/rescue in 1936

Waverly, as it is today

To add on, one reason a lot of these places faded away was because they were too far gone by the time anyone thought to save them. There are some that did get lucky, Waverly near West Point, MS and most of Natchez, MS for example.
