Yes, different generations. The cool striped one is the original, the second is the more common later design.
I think the original is one of the best looking mass-produced cars out there.

I had a 1976? (round headlights, 1.6 and single wiper if that helps) for a short time. It had a sunroof meaning no headroom for my 6 foot 32" inseam carcass. However, it made up for that by being slow as February molasses and exhibiting numerous electrical problems. Looked exactly like this one:
