'Gators don't bug me, but this is why I paddle alone (I won't take Gertrude on the Peace River.) The key is to not surprise/startle anything big enough to be a problem, and the kayak I was using has a loud enough hull that this is not a problem. (I have a quieter boat, too, but my sit on top is better for shallow water in the dry season. If you have to get out and wade, you want a sit on top.) If it is too dry, you tend to see stuff like this:
Edit: yes, that tail drag picture is mine. The critter making the tracks was probably 9' or so.
my favorite put in spot is is heavily wooded and has plenty of wildlife....pigs, alligators, otters, gar, heron, egrets, osprey, kites....it is a nice place.
