I knew a guy who trained Iranian pilots in the late '70s. He had a million stories about trainees punching out of perfectly good aircraft because they couldn't remember how to put the gear down, and other moments of idiocy.

I just read "Viper Pilot," in which the author describes instructing Egyptian pilots in F-16s. One of his students didn't understand that "raise your nose" referred to the plane's nose, not the pilot's.

When I haul my kayaks from NC to VT, I always put a few helper straps around the bar and some fixed point on the kayak, just in case the other straps get loose.

I added a couple of safety lines on the bow and stern of all of them after this picture was taken. They might get loose, but they aren't going anywhere.
