Nope. But kinda. The saw is point of it, though. There's no wood, where this is being used.

My guess would be to cut through ice. Bar and chain swivel down, slides on skids.

Cutting holes in ice?

Yup for sturgeon spearing on Lake Winnebago and some of the surrounding bodies of water!

Like this:

There's my wife by the hole (2'x6' ish) in the shanty/shack. The spear is hanging there with the rope, with the tips in the water. Wait for a sturgeon to swim by that's bigger than your decoy, and glide the spear down at it. I've never seen one in the water, let alone one that's big enough. People go for years even decades without seeing anything. It turns into a party on the ice.

OK, *where's the rest of that picture?!* T-6 wing and gear, I'm guessing, but is this primordial Photoshop, or is something else holding that up? Pic related:

I suspect the ground is holding it up and the background is composited in. Photo manipulation was around a long time before Photoshop made it easy.

That's probably a good thing considering most of the sturgeon I've seen in person you wouldn't want anything to do with after you've stuck it with a spear. Much less coming out of a hole that small.
