The land rover grill is referred to as a "breakfast" because it was designed to be used as a grill for cooking, thus the origin of the word "grill".

Although it's well known for people to use the grille on the front of a Land Rover as a grill, they are two different words. I bet their etymology split well before Land Rover was a company.
What I think about when I hear grille if I don't think about a car grille:
Also Kingsford invented the modern charcoal briquette for his relative Henry Ford during the production of the Model T due to the excess wood from their production process.
Sorry, the story is nice but don't believe it's accurate.

Definitely not true. Using the Rover grille to cook breakfast is a plausible thing to do, as the Land Rover grille comes off quickly and easily. But it's galvanized, which makes it a really bad choice for a cooking implement.
As far as I know, the term started as a joke in the Ottawa Valley Land Rover club, who also had the primary repository of online LR info in the early 90's so they got to sneak it into the lexicon. It's not used in the UK - although it may have spread there by now. Kinda like the Miata Ice Racer, a mailing list joke that has had surprising legs.
In reply to Duke:
Wisconsin has a lot of cranberry bogs. I've never seen a dolphin in the bogs, just a couple of porpoises.
