My ass is whipped and I've still got another truck load to split and stack.as my strength and stamina have started to return ... I try to split 2 or 3 pieces each day .... trying to have some extra for Mom fires while I'm recovering and not able to split any ... I've got enough, I think, to last for each days fire (she's good about not wanting one every day) so I should be able to start splitting some again come the end of the month
I bought a splitter this year. 5 chord later we have one of the mildest Decembers in recent memory.

I bought one a couple of years ago, but I can bust water oak faster with an ax. I save the splitter for the tough pieces.
Not to mention I desperately need the exercise.
The best splitting ax I've ever used.

I bought one of those this fall! DAMN that thing rocks! I've kept the hatchet version in the camper for years and had great luck with it. I stumbled on the full size version and immediately dropped the $70.
...and now I haven't picked up any firewood because it's been so warm. It's funny, when I test drove the F250 two weeks ago it had a bed full of wet oak so I was able to drive it loaded. The load of firewood actually was part of the price negotiations. I chose to unload it and save a few dollars since it was soaked anyway.

EDIT: So I started a thread about this car after I posted here. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?

It looks like an Innocenti Spider. Which was basically an Italian rebadged MG Midget/AH Sprite.

My wife's uncle lives up near the Canadian border where he was paying $250 for 10 cord of wood. He filled his dump truck and headed south to New Jersey where he flipped it for more than enough to make it worth the effort.
On his fourth trip down, three guys is a black sedan pulled him over and explained the NJ Free Market System and how they had the firewood thing covered.
That was his last trip ....

It's a Fiat 1500 Spider from the mid '60's.

I do know he deserted his post and was captured and subsequently tortured over the course of 5 years. I know that the fallout of his actions caused increased risk of harm to his fellow soldiers - and he knew that before deserting. Now he's being prosecuted for his actions. I didnt mean to say he should be held in the same regard as McCain and other POWs captured in combat. Just that I'm personally learning a lot from the podcast and other sources about POW treatment. And now a kitty cat.
I do apologize. It's an easy nerve to trip over. I was deployed for three years as a Department of the Army Civilian and some of my customer base were from his unit.
Here, have a cookie.

Oh, forgot to add. . .
Check out:
Michael Durant, Jessica Lynch, Donald Pleasance, George Coker, as seen before-Jerimiah Denton,
And lest we forget the magnificent bastards of the USS Pueblo. . .
My brother-in-law bought me on of those. I don't have a fire place, and I don't have any trees big enough to need splitting before burning. I've used it exactly once.
