Keith, where are your bow and stern lines? I'm betting they just hadn't made it on, yet.

I'll take this opportunity to link the nifty thing I learned about and posted in tech tips a while back. Having these make having forward support on your loads a bit easier. I just got some more grommets and I plan to add some to the 4Runner soon. I also have to re-do the ones on the Forester.

I'll also note that if you keep D-Rings and 550 cord in your spare tire well or with your jack, and remember to put them back after using them, you're never without cordage and attachment points.

Stern lines are going on while the picture was taken, you can see the padding on the rear bumper. We even took that load down washboarded dirt roads, heading for the Barren River in Algonquin Park.

Tip: sea kayaks like this are magic in the water but a right bastard to portage through the woods.
