I'm not convinced it's a Minx, unless it is a notably different year. Look at the wheel arches and the terminus of the rear wings. The grille looks different, too, and 914's example looks to have a wraparound windshield.
I know the wheels on this thing are at least one ingredient in the awesome sauce recipe that makes up this thing. But boy oh boy, that front lower bumper cover completes it!
I'd daily the E36 M3 out of this.

I'm sure it would look nice if it wasn't just a black lump of blackness in a pit of black, with black buttons that light up black against a black background...
"‘It’s the wild colour scheme that freaks me out,’ said Zaphod, whose love affair with the ship had lasted almost three minutes into the flight. 'Every time you try and operate these weird black controls that are labeled in black on a black background, a little black light lights up in black to let you know you’ve done it.’"

Disagree.
The black on black for this particular car is part on the allure.

Given Fords history of giving all the cool toys to the other kids, and leaving us with a stick to play with, this is me not holding my breath

You guys seem to forget that the Bronco is coming back in a few years and it's a new design based on the Aussie Ranger that is also coming here. You want a super industrial old school instead of the new real Bronco? What ever. I'm pretty sure the new Bronco is going to be my next new car when it comes out.
I'm showing the below image of a ruined Mustang as all the 'spy' shots of the new Bronco have about as much in common with Ford design as this does.

I went to a few car shows when Ford was shopping the Freestyle around. The show version looked great! Torque thrust D rims, little points of chrome here and there it was nice. Retro-ish without sacrificing modern performance or utility.
Then you see what we got.
I am not holding my breath on ANYTHING from ANY MANUFACTURER till I see the production version. The Tor 4 is a production version based on the global Ranger platform. So I have a little, just a tiny bit of hope for something similar.

I'll believe it when I see it. If it does happen, by the time it gets here, it will be a over complicated parody of the vehicle that I would actually buy. It will be just another cute ute for the soccer mom class.
Not necessarily related.
