I guess it tastes like high density silicone rubber? No hotlink because I don't want to get banned.

Ah aircraft, that explains it. I may have seen it and just not realized it then, I thought it was some bizarre car motor.

Today I learned that this was a popular thing.  I showed your pic to my wife and she said its very common.  We* have had geldings until recently when she bought a mare as the project horse. 

*by "we" I mean "she" as I am just a farm facilities and equipment maintenance husband who once had a wiener dog
