Not a photochop. Its real.
In 1930 they put a dam at one end of the Sacandaga Valley and flooded it. As salt water creeps up the Hudson River inland, they open the dam releasing water and driving the sea water back out to sea.
The last train out.
Eventually the old barns that were submerged rotted away, but the stone fences play hell on the props and outdrive!

They created a hell of a place to catch Northern Pike, too.

I'm sorry I missed this when I was racing trotters in upstate NY. Really appreciate these posts.

? Don’t get the Allentown reference....
Allentown, NY
Re: 914Driver
I used to spend some time around there while dad visited family. And the names of those towns ring in my memories from hearing him tell stories.
Thanks for the pics!
When the valley flooded, one small section with one road was separated from the rest of the world. Lake on one side, mountains on the other three. Families living there are all named Alllen, lots of cross dating and inter-marriages. My dog was kidnaped years ago, the State Police came and told me they thought they knew where the dog was but they won't go there alone, won't go in marked cars and won't go at night.
Hmm, wonder if Andy Luey was that beasts last meal.

I think I'd heard of that place- like they were stuck in the 1800s and didn't even have indoor plumbing until the 1980s.
Another odd place up in the mountains is Tahawus. It was abandoned because there was too much titanium or something in the ore they were getting. I'd heard that they wanted to start mining it again but the environmental impact in the park kept it from happening.
