And while we are of like mind on many things, we are 180 degrees out on this.
The 70's was the best decade I will ever know
Obligatory hotlink of your's truly enjoying the 70's (Sportsman's show, circa 72/73)
Your hotlink isn't working for me.
I was 5 years old in 1970. I was 15 in 1980.
By 1975 I knew that the '70s were a vast wasteland of stupidity, tastelessness, and underachievement.
The epic inflation and unemployment rates were just a bonus.

You could say that about a lot of decades, and IMO, you're describing the the 80's

You just feel bad that you can't rock that checked outfit H-I-J-K. That is an outfit that exemplifies a man confident in his own self. And in his abs.

The 70s were the worst decade, because I was born near the start of it.
You guys bashing the 70's and 80's are forgetting gems like this from the 50's. How did anyone survive this E36 M3?
And I'm greatfull for having been born in the 60's and come of age in the 80's. Certainly the two greatest decades from a car POV.
I have nothing but fond memories of the 70s. We lived on the outskirts of Myrtle Beach, at that time it was just another beach town. Sailed all the time. A Triumph TR3 was our family car. Everyone I loved the most was young and/or alive.

The old Porsche Type 547 four cam flat four was a nightmare to time. I read somewhere it took 40 man hours to set the timing from scratch.
" Add in that the 547 utilized dry-sump oiling and a roller-bearing crankshaft assembly. What all this meant, was that the Fuhrmann engine was extremely complicated to build and service. Adjusting the cam and ignition timing could take up to 40 hours alone, and refurbishing the engine could take up to 100 hours. Despite their mechanical complexity, these engines were known for being quite durable and versatile. Take the 550 Spyder for instance, which made a name for Porsche by driving to the track, winning, and driving home afterward."

I love the Napier Deltic engine:
