I've always loved all the V bombers, especially the Vulcan as it looked so cool to a kid being a delta wind. Of course it also helped that it was in On Her Majesties Secret Service.
If you haven't heard of Operation Black Buck you should check Wiki and YouTube for one of the various documentaries on it. Cliff notes. 1982 Falklands war, a single Vulcan was flown from the British Ascension islands to the Falklands and back to bomb the runway of the seized airport. They needed to do this to prevent air attack on the approaching British fleet. One Vulcan and 15 sorties by Victors to refuel each other and the Vulcan. Incredible story.
Awesome, this is the graphic I remember seeing! I read the story of how they refueled the Vulcans en route to make the last leg to the Falklands from Ascension Island (if I’m remembering correctly).
Heres a picture of a Victor refueling a pair of English Electric Lightnings. Fast but thirsty.
Just read To Fly and Fight by triple ace Bud Anderson. You know when Chuck Yeager pens the intro to your biography you are probably a stud.

This was something he tried with little success after WWII.

A related and equally ridiculous fighter escort option, the Goblin

My only real world experience with those kinds of plates is on European makes here in the states. Therefore that's probably the last car I would expect to see those plates on. And that's fantastic that it's on the ring, too.
It reminds me of in Aruba - every car was there with extreme intentionality, right? And on my week of touring and driving the island in 2012 I saw one ONE 1 uno singular 94ish Pontiac Grand Am that someone at some point had meant to bring there. Sooo who meant to bring this Chevy truck to Europe?
Sidenote: snorkeling over that shipwreck in crystal clear waters made me realize that part of my fear of deep water is actually a fear of heights
every so often I see something I've never heard of before, wish I'd known about them before.
In reply to P3PPY :
I can see someone wanting a truck, but I didn't think anyone intentionally owned a Grand Am.

GTR's great, great, great grand dad?
Sorry it's not hotlinked. We take turns sitting with our 90 year old mother, today I took a walk around the block.

^That's just about the best thing ever.
Also, dammit Wally, you're killin me (meaning, you are posting funny E36 M3)!
Small car dealership in Shawano, Wisconsin was dumping "jalopies" into a nearby lake for years, until 1942 when the Government put a call out for scrap metal. He retrieved over 500 cars.
