"The #7 lifter wasn't stuck and only had minor scrapes on it, so we were all surprised when the tech yanked the shaft out and saw this. Ran surprisingly well, just a random misfire on #7 obviously, but had a hellacious squealing noise which was the customers main complaint."
An old Chevy truck w/305 I had did that, I understand once you break through the case hardening .....
Someone in the thread mentioned that the red mark indicates that for some reason it is a reject, so maybe the case hardening never took?

The more you look, the more questions you have. Besides "why would you take off the best wedge heads ever made and install hemi heads?".
Then "why does it have a distributor, and coil packs?"
"Is that a blower drive on the front of the crank?"
"What the heck is going on with the thing that looks like a carburetor on the intake manifold?"
"Why are there burst plates on the manifold?"
I think the carburetor thing is a Holley Sniper retrofit EFI system, or similar.

I'm guessing they're showing off a few unrelated pieces on one block to make life easy, but where those heads are legal they moved a lot more air than any Chevy head if I remember right.
