It came out of an old guys shed, appears hand forged. It's an adjustable hook of some kind but no idea of its intended purpose

If the size is right, that probably was used to hang pots over the fire in a fireplace.
And once again, grm doesn't dissapoint!
That's awesome, it was meant to follow me home then. I have a big open fireplace, and it has a bar across the chimney for that purpose.
