I've only seen one in person, it had a full cage and and a factory hardtop that was bolted down, just like one of these: It was a while ago, but I think it was from the old SCCA stage rally thing.

Of course there's also this guy: Who runs the Targa Newfoundland, which is basically a tarmac rally like Rallye Deutschland.

You can't rally a Miata under Rally America or CARS rules - must have a fixed roof. I am not sure about NASA Rallysport:

There have been a few guys who have applied for and received exceptions. Dan Edmunds with the SCCA was the first - that's him below. In my case, the Targa Newfoundland rules for Open Class were amended

I have seen Mike Hurst (RA Tech Director) post that it would not be allowed again in RA. SCCA permitted it and then when that car stopped running, removed the rule that allowed it.

Well, those being hovercraft, I assume that the course includes a water leg as well.
