That's exactly the same gas can I use for my lawnmower. 
Reminds me of a local airshow I attended as a kid in the early '70s. They flew down one of the original SPADs from Rhinebeck. To extend the range, they had added a plastic 5-gallon gas can right behind the pilot with some teflon tubing stuck through a hole in the lid an teed into a fuel line near the pilot's feet. There was a little ball valve to switch from the main tanks to the reserve he had to bend down and open...
