Rat rods are for people who can't paint.

That's parked on Main Street in Grand Junction! I drive past the KCW shop every day. Al Johnson, who built the Speedster in the latest GRM, is also here in town. For a small ranch town, we have some cool stuff going on. And some roads.
Some rat rods are for people who care more about driving and enjoying the car rather than making it look pretty.

No, there's at least as much work put in to making the car look like crap and fitting some specific aesthetic as there would be to make it look right. A large percentage of them are not really functional machines, either. They're the vehicular equivalent of a dentist on a Harley with no mufflers and a whip hanging off the right handlebar.

Clean! Looks like he even managed to keep the windshield squirter, so it's functional too. But someone needs a better radiator as well as an overflow tank.
hey I just saw one of those whips yesterday! WTF is that supposed to be about? I thought he'd lost his pet poodle!

Yeah, i'm jealous.... MSM engine bay is a RAT'S NEST.
I should point out that my opinions on rat rods are just an opinion, and you know what they say about those
As for wiring tucks - what are they like to work on? The VW guys do just spectacular versions.
I think it depends how the tuck is done... or to what extreme. I've worked on a few tucked hondas, and it wasn't bad at all.
I tend to lean more towards "semi-tucked" anyways. I don't have the patience to do something like the one i posted (nor some of the VW examples for sure), but a rat's nest bugs me pretty badly.
^I could deal with that... at least it's all organized.
Here's what i'm about to be dealing with. (Shamelessly hotlinked from Flyin' Miata's page):

Oh neat! Just noticed the oil filter relocation. That makes me happy.
My problem with some of those rat rods is that they look like a metal sculpture, not a functional car. If it looks like crud but moves that's one thing, but if you can't get it over a speed bump it's sculpture. Sadly, a lot of exotic cars fall into that category.
