That's a SBC head in the first pic, most probable a SESCO Chevy... half a 327 w/ custom crank and cam, popular in Midget racing in the 60s and early 70s.

You're right...it is already pretty common, and only going to become more so. Example: This Denise Milani picture was used about a dozen pages ago, and I was sure that it was also used a few hundred back.
