The start/stop...
And some awesomeness from the Hotel we were staying at (these are anniversary pics folks...Im a lucky guy!)
The hotel was about a mile away from the track - all weekend long you could hear carbed and ITB'd vintage racers opening up on that big downhill curve...it was bitchin!

Give Tom the bonus points, but the real memories are from those who witnessed and experienced the "gravity cavity", a feature that disappeared long ago.
Notice that there is no T10a nor T10b and then, the downhill from T9 was 30'(+) steeper. The ridge at T8 was also 10'-15' higher; a big plus for roller-coaster fans.
In reply to oldsaw:
I thought Tom got it. I certainly recognized it. I ran cable around the entire track in 1992 so I am intimately familiar with it (it has changed a lot since then). I had an RX7 at the time which I'd blast use to blast around the track before and after hours. During the day, I used a tow truck for transportation purposes. That was much less fun.
If I had a time machine, I'd use it to see a few things.

"The Bog" at Watkins Glen - I'm told they partied so hard, they'd make the Hongs blush. (I have a tomato basket full of old 8mm films my Dad made in that era...someday I'll get a projector and convert them.)
Also, I'd like to see Marlboro Raceway in Maryland before it looked like this...
"Old" Virginia International Raceway (check out this site for a taste -link-)
This is where it all started for me. 20 years ago as a driver, and 25 years ago as mechanic on a Firehawk team.
I thought if it's going to be another Porsche, it better be a rare one...

Random question, is there any reason I can't log in on GRM when using google chrome?

I keep hoping for some random billionaire to buy it and fix it up. If I ever win the lottery I'll try to go for a group buy.
In reply to Tom and Otto:
Memories are more wonderful when backed-up by photos.
Otto, thanks to your helping "modernize" RA; there was a noticeable (and appreciated) improvement in track communications and announcing!
Tom, I need to get a scanner as I've got pics of Dekon Monza's at their first appearance and even Holbert's version at Pocono a couple years later.
I missed the bus-burning "glory days" of the Bog by a year or so, but there were still some stalwarts determined to "re-ignite" the passion.
Marlboro is long gone but VIR is still on the bucket list.

I have threatened to bring one home if I can find the right one. Luckily for my wife there are few V8s left.
