In reply to bikerbenz:

It was much bigger the a Canoe! The true story of the captain of the cargo ship Maersk Alabama that was hijacked by Somali pirates.

Yeah, that was recent enough that we remember it.

Strangely, it turns out 4 of the Somali actors were recruited as unknowns locally to me. And that is the last I am going to say about it- I have my own feelings about that particular community.

I just read an article where some of the crew say the movie is full of E36 M3.

As always, only those that were there know for sure.

aren't most movies of actual events (or of a good book) mostly bull E36 M3 ?

I hear that "The passion of the Christ" was a book before it was a movie..

The most intense and most true to life is the ending. We all knew it ended the way it ended, but hats off to the Navy Seals that took the shots.

Pretty much. 'Black Hawk Down' is said to be roughly 50% accurate. I read the book before seeing the movie, it's from eyewitness accounts of those actually involved and assuming they told the truth I'd say that's about right. They did hit the high points correctly though.

flounder in 3....2...1....

I'm not sure either media retelling of that story has any form of truth in it whatsoever. That said- if they changed the Passion just a little bit, it'd probably make a killer horror film.

Oh, you mistake me, I thought it was hilarious. I was referring to my comment about neither of them being true. We're solid. My apologies for the missed inferrence.

Well, um.... not exactly.

Navy Times article

"...(T)he official version that unfolded in the Indian Ocean wasn’t as tidy as Hollywood’s, or the versions in Phillips’ own book or in contemporaneous news reports. In fact, many more than three shots were fired, $30,000 went missing and the integrity of the SEALs was questioned."

Probably this one:

Crew members: ‘Captain Phillips’ is one big lie

They seem to paint Phillips as a bit of a incompetent prick. One of the big things they say is wrong (and shows in the trailer) is how Phillips supposedly gives himself up to save the crew. The crew said that was actually a case of Phillips wanting to give up and crew wanting to lock themselves in / hide under deck (the procedure they were supposed to follow).

Of course, Phillips is the one writing this history....
