Wonder how friendly he is with Dale Jr. That may have been a wakeup call.

Just watched the 30 plus minute departure speech and all I can honestly think is it's his life/ his call, can't blame a guy for that. But wait and see, things could unfold down the road in weeks or months to define any ulterior reasons for leaving now, only time will tell. Gotta wish Carl the best on any new endeavors, very talented guy there.

If you really don't want to be in a hurtling piece of machinery, then it becomes a really bad place to be. Also, I noticed he's been landing those last couple of back flips a little short. So maybe it's time to move on.

Frankly, I think we'll see Nico and him in some other form of racing. GT / prototype endurance racing has nowhere near the schedule commitment NASCAR /F1 does. With NASCAR, it's the weekly grind what with sponsor commitments, testing, and the race itself. In F1, it's never knowing whether your body will ever catch up to the time zone it currently resides in. There's a lot more to racing than the racing.

What is it about that town? Counting you, i have encountered at least a half dozen people in different automotive forums that are from there and know Carl Edwards, or at least are closely associated with someone that knows him...

I think as we begin to further understand the effects on the brain from concussions and the like, we'll see more and more early age retirements from athletes that would rather not go down that road.

True. You have to wonder how many times he's whacked his head during his career. Hell, I've hit myself hard enough while mountain biking to know it (although I think only once to the point of being temporarily unconscious) enough times that when I read the symptoms I have to wonder if I don't suffer from some of the effects.

You can get a concussion without losing consciousness

Oh, I know - that's what concerns me. Let's just say all of my full-face bike helmets except my current one show evidence of significant impacts.
