It's funny, but I was in downtown Indy late Thursday afternoon & didn't even remember about the race until later that night. There really wasn't any more people or traffic than usual, but then again I wasn't down in Speedway either.

It's just a shame though, as it seemed like the whole city used to be packed for the whole week leading up to the race.

That will happen when you turn a innovative race that is about the best tech and the best drivers, into Honda's Nascar. A Spec series... Blegh.

I watch the 500 for the history. And that is why the 500 is the only indy car race I watch

I thought it was the only Indy car race.......

not really, but I haven't paid any attention to Indy in years (or anything relating to IRL or whatever the other series was/is). I get my open wheel fix from F1 - not the most exciting form of racing, but better than NASCAR without the fenders.

Don't you think the IRS will be standing there waiting for their share of the purse?

Thursday night is when everybody goes to St. Elmo. A few years ago, I saw Letterman and Danica in the basement. A few others were upstairs.

Friday night is when the party goes on outside Ike's.

Unfortunately, it's not like it used to be. I hope it gets back that way, though. I'll be moving back to Indy whenever the stupid Michigan economy gives me back some of my home value.

Actually, it sound more like "F U to the the US". He wasn't cheating the IRS, he was cheating the US out of tax money from income he made in the US. I don't really see how that is a good thing, why should he be immune to paying taxes?

The Indy broadcast also made it seem like he had some great victory over the IRS. From the looks of it (6 days for the jury to decide) he got away with something that a normal (as in not having millions to hire lawyers) person would have gotten nailed for. Yes, great for him, but it seems pretty likely there was a dodge going on.

Realistically of course, it is unlikely he had much of a role in the shady actions, but his sister was probably fully aware. I don't know exactly what they did, but something to do with giving his $5 million in pay to an offshore company that he supposedly had no interests in.

He was acquitted on all charges. I don't know the details, but I do know that here in the good ole U.S.of A. you are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty.

He's clearly a guy who enjoys his work, and he's darn good at it. I doubt there were any (NASCAR type) shennanigans involved with his car. It just seems when the chips are down, he knows the fast way around Indy.

It is nice to see a guy win who really appreciates the victory, instead of acting like a spoiled punk.

I just wonder how many NASCAR fans think he "stole" the fence climbing bit from Tony Stewart.

I met him at the Petit last year. He seemed like a super nice guy and I did the parade lap with him, Ryan Briscoe, and Helio's girlfriend in my Miata. Fun stuff.

Yes. But getting away with a crime and not doing a crime in the first place are two entirely different things. Like I say, I really think there was likely little intent on his part, but his name is on everything.

As far as the race. It looked to me like he had the fasted car all day (thus the top qualifying) but chose to hold back a bit for most of the race, which is probably a good tactic. Running away from the the pack at the end seems to reinforce that.

I can say though, I feel really bad for Kanaan. That's some bad luck.

Yeah, I felt bad for Kanaan as well, but fortunately he is alright after taking that hit.

Sooner than later T.K. is going to taste the milk.
