Challenge priced alternative to Lightroom?

By "Challenge priced" I mean $free.99

I need to play with editing some RAW files (specifically Canon/CR2 files)
I used to use GIMP, but its been long enough since I used it that I might as well play with something different.

So, anyone have good suggestions?

GIMP's still good and not only free, but also libre wink

But there are closer alternatives, I've seen Darktable recommended before:
